How to prepare your accommodation for business travellers
If you own accommodation that welcomes — or aims to welcome — business travellers, review what they need to work and rest during their stay.
At Alehost, we share some tips to help you serve this market segment.
Understand the business traveller
Business travellers traditionally used single hotel rooms when visiting another city for work. Increasingly, however, they choose to rent an entire property.
Why? The answer lies in the range of advantages tourist accommodation can offer.
A location near work, suitable space and privacy can be useful. Describe these advantages with verifiable details, such as journey times, equipment and layout, without assuming all business travellers want the same things.
A work assignment may last days, weeks or months. Its duration and purpose need to be considered alongside permitted use and the appropriate contract; a business stay does not automatically make any accommodation a mid-term rental.
These guests are an important group for holiday let owners to consider, so your property should meet their potential needs.
What does a business traveller need?
A pleasant, relaxing setting.
The purpose of the trip influences what guests need. Ask about arrival, workspace and rest, and explain what you can provide. A quiet bedroom or convenient transport access may matter more than adding services nobody requested.
Prioritise comfortable rest, cleanliness and equipment in good condition. Advertise only available facilities and provide a way to report problems.
A setting that is practical as well as pleasant.
Rest and comfort matter, and some guests also need to work from the accommodation. An advertised workspace must genuinely accommodate a laptop and accessories.
Check the desk, chair and lighting, and make sure sockets are accessible. Try the space during a working session: avoid surfaces that are too small or seating designed only for dining. Explain whether the area is separate or in a shared room, and show a clear photograph.
Also check the kitchen, storage, washing machine and iron if you advertise them. Leave operating instructions and clarify whether cleaning during longer stays, fresh linen or other services are included: availability and costs should be clear before booking.
A good connection is essential.
Test the connection from the workspace and bedroom, not only beside the router. Record the test date and check stability during a video call and coverage in advertised areas. If you state a speed, explain that it is an indicative measurement rather than a constant guarantee. Leave network access instructions and a support contact.
Review privacy between stays too: do not leave previous guests signed in on televisions or shared devices.
Do not forget the essentials
Coordinate cleaning, key handover and arrival times. If you offer flexible check-in, explain the procedure and its limits. Confirm in advance how stay documentation or the applicable invoice will be provided; avoid promising support you cannot deliver.
If you want to adapt your accommodation or improve stay coordination, ask Alehost which management model and services suit the property.
